Directions

This is one of those simple stops that ends up being one of the most memorable. Fresh out of the oven, warm, and impossible to eat just one.

Madeleines de Christophe, in the historic center of Aix-en-Provence, is a small artisan bakery dedicated to one thing done extremely well: fresh madeleines baked daily. Created by Christophe Monterin, a former Michelin-level pastry chef, the shop has become a local reference over the years.

The madeleines come in a wide range of flavors, from classic options like lemon, chocolate, and almond to more creative combinations using local ingredients such as lavender honey or citrus from Provence. Everything is produced daily in a nearby workshop, ensuring maximum freshness and that soft, slightly crisp texture that defines a proper madeleine.

Beyond madeleines, you’ll also find cannelés, cakes, and macarons, making it an easy stop for a quick treat during a walk through Aix.

👉 Local Tip: Go in the morning or early afternoon for the freshest batch. If they’re still warm, take a few plain ones first. That’s where you really taste the difference compared to standard bakery versions.
