From the outside, it looks simple and elegant. Step inside, and the atmosphere changes completely.

The Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, located in the hilltop village of Èze (Alpes-Maritimes), is an 18th-century church built in a neoclassical style, with a surprisingly rich baroque interior. It was constructed between 1764 and 1778 by the Italian architect Antoine Spinelli, replacing an older structure that had fallen into ruin.

The ochre façade, with its clean lines and bell tower, blends naturally into the village. Inside, however, the space opens into a single nave decorated with chapels, religious artwork, chandeliers, and historic relics, including pieces associated with Saint Hospice. The contrast between the restrained exterior and the detailed interior is what makes this church memorable.

Perched halfway between the ruins of the old castle and the lower part of the village, the church also occupies a striking position on the hillside. It’s both a place of worship and a cultural space, occasionally hosting concerts.

👉 Local Tip: Visit early in the morning or late in the day when tour groups have left. The church feels much more peaceful, and you’ll be able to appreciate the details of the interior without the constant flow of visitors.
