La Maison du Riz

Directions

Located near Sambuc in the heart of the Camargue, La Maison du Riz focuses on one of the region’s most important yet often overlooked traditions: rice production.

Set among active paddy fields, this small museum explains how rice is grown in the Rhône delta, from irrigation and harvesting to its role in local cuisine. The Camargue is one of the main rice-producing areas in France, and this is one of the few places where you can understand that landscape beyond what you see from the road.

Visits typically include a guided tour of the fields and facilities, followed by a tasting of dishes made with locally grown rice, connecting agriculture directly to the plate.

Even just driving to the site offers a different perspective on the Camargue, with flat wetlands, canals, and cultivated fields stretching across the horizon.

👉 Local Tip: Even if the museum is closed, the surrounding area is worth a detour. Drive through the rice fields around Sambuc for a quieter, more authentic side of the Camargue.
