Kastraki is a picturesque village nestled at the foot of the Meteora rock formations, offering travelers a charming, authentic base for exploring this UNESCO‑listed region. Its narrow cobblestone streets, traditional stone houses, and sweeping views of the monasteries perched above make it a perfect spot to pause between monastery visits or to enjoy a slower pace after a full day of sightseeing.

This village is well‑known for its family‑run tavernas, serving hearty Thessalian dishes like slow‑cooked lamb, moussaka, and handmade pies, often accompanied by local wine. Kastraki is also a great starting point for short hikes and photography walks, giving you quieter perspectives of Meteora away from the tour bus crowds. Many visitors choose to stay overnight in its guesthouses to enjoy Meteora at dawn or dusk, when the rocks glow in soft light.

👉 Plan a late lunch or early dinner here. Restaurants like those on the main square offer generous portions, mountain hospitality, and front‑row views of Meteora’s cliffs.
