The Jardin Exotique de Monaco is one of the most spectacular botanical gardens on the French Riviera, perched high above the principality with sweeping views over Monaco and the Mediterranean Sea.

Laid out across steep terraces connected by winding paths, the garden hosts an extraordinary collection of more than 6,000 varieties of cacti, succulents, and semi-desert plants from around the world. Thanks to Monaco’s warm climate and sunny exposure, species normally found in arid regions flourish here among rocky outcrops and dramatic viewpoints.

Beyond the botanical displays, the site also contains the Grotte de l’Observatoire, a limestone cave descending about 60 metres underground. Inside, visitors can see impressive stalactites and stalagmites formed over thousands of years. The cave also preserves evidence of prehistoric animals and early human activity dating back around 200,000 years.

Nearby, the Musée d’Anthropologie Préhistorique displays prehistoric tools, bones, and artifacts discovered in the caves and surrounding region, providing insight into ancient human life on the Riviera.
