A quieter corner of Marseille where locals escape the city without really leaving it. The atmosphere shifts here. Fewer crowds, more sea views, and easy access to nature.

Montredon, located in the 8th arrondissement of Marseille, sits at the southern edge of the city, right between the Mediterranean and the first trails of the Calanques National Park. Once an industrial area, it has transformed into a laid-back coastal neighborhood known for its proximity to beaches, small calanques, and scenic walking routes.

From here, you can easily reach several of Marseille’s best swimming spots, including Pointe Rouge, the city’s largest sandy beach, and more discreet coves like Anse des Sablettes or Plage de la Verrerie, which many visitors miss on their first trip. Just beyond, the coastline becomes wilder, with access to calanques such as Saména, Mauvais Pas, and Escalette, where the scenery shifts to cliffs, turquoise water, and rugged terrain.

Montredon is also a great base for exploring inland. The nearby Parc Pastré offers shaded walks around a historic château, while hikers can follow trails toward Marseilleveyre for panoramic views over the coast.

This is where Marseille slows down, blending local life, seaside access, and nature in one place.

👉 Local Tip: Skip Pointe Rouge in peak hours and head toward Plage de la Verrerie or the smaller coves past Saména early in the morning. Access is less obvious, but that’s exactly why they stay quieter and feel more local.
