Port Grimaud is a unique waterfront village on the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, designed in the 1960s by Alsatian architect François Spoerry. Built on former marshland at the mouth of the Giscle River, the project transformed the area into a picturesque network of canals, bridges, and pastel-colored houses.

Often described as a “Provençal Venice,” Port Grimaud consists of more than 2,500 canal-side homes, each with its own boat mooring. The development covers about 90 hectares and is organized into several zones connected by waterways, small squares, and pedestrian streets.

One of the defining features of Port Grimaud is that cars are largely kept outside the residential areas, creating a peaceful atmosphere where people move mostly on foot or by boat. A water taxi service (coche d’eau) runs through the canals and across the marina.

At the centre of the village stands the Church of Saint-François-d’Assise, which features stained glass created by the artist Victor Vasarely. Visitors can climb the church tower for panoramic views over the canals, marina, and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez in the Var.

With its colourful architecture, canals, and marina life, Port Grimaud is one of the most distinctive seaside destinations on the Côte d’Azur.

👉 Local tip: Climb the tower of the Church of Saint-François-d’Assise for the best aerial view of the canals, colourful houses, and boats of Port Grimaud.
