Located just a few kilometres from the Italian border, Menton is often described as the Pearl of France and the most Italian town on the French Riviera. Sheltered by mountains and facing the Mediterranean, the town enjoys one of the mildest climates in France, allowing citrus fruits, palms, and exotic plants to flourish.

Menton’s historic centre rises above the harbour in a cascade of pastel-coloured houses, narrow streets, and Baroque architecture. At the top of the old town lies the beautiful Parvis Saint-Michel, a striking square paved with the Grimaldi coat of arms, where concerts and cultural events are often held during summer. The nearby Basilique Saint-Michel-Archange, with its twin towers, dominates the skyline.

The town is also famous for its gardens, including the Jardin Botanique Exotique at Villa Val Rahmeh and the elegant Jardin des Colombières, designed by artist Ferdinand Bac. Menton’s mild climate makes it ideal for growing citrus fruits, celebrated each February during the famous Fête du Citron (Lemon Festival).

Along the waterfront, a pleasant promenade stretches toward Cap Martin, offering beautiful views of the Mediterranean coast and the colourful old town.

👉 Local tip: Walk out onto the harbor jetties for one of the best views of Menton’s old town. From here, the pastel houses climbing the hill and the basilica above create one of the most photogenic scenes on the Riviera.
