The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Nice is housed in an elegant 19th-century villa built in 1878 for a Ukrainian princess, making the building itself part of the attraction. With its ornate Neo-Classical architecture and grand interiors, the museum offers a glimpse into the refined lifestyle of the Riviera’s Belle Époque period.

The museum’s collection spans three centuries of European art, with works dating from the 17th to the early 20th centuries. The ground floor presents paintings and sculptures from the 17th and 18th centuries, including notable works and sculptures by Auguste Rodin.

Upstairs, the galleries showcase a panorama of 19th-century French painting, including works by artists associated with Impressionism and Post-Impressionism such as Bonnard, Dufy, and Vuillard. The collection also features pieces by artists connected to the artistic life of Nice and the French Riviera.

Originally enriched by donations during the reign of Napoleon III, the museum continues to highlight the strong cultural ties between Nice and the wider European art world.

👉 Local tip: Don’t miss the upper terrace and garden area behind the villa, where you can enjoy a quiet break after the galleries and glimpse the elegant residential neighbourhood around the museum.
