Directions

Heat, movement, and precision come together in a craft that has shaped the identity of an entire village. Watching molten glass transform into delicate forms gives a rare glimpse into a skill that few places still preserve.

La Verrerie de Biot, located in the village of Biot between Nice and Cannes, is where the famous bubble glass (verre bullé) was created in 1956 by Éloi Monod. What started as a technical flaw became a signature style, now recognized as part of the region’s artistic heritage.

The workshop remains open to visitors, offering a chance to observe master glassmakers at work as they shape glowing material into unique pieces. Beyond the workshop, a gallery displays contemporary glass art, while the boutique showcases a wide range of handcrafted objects in different colors and forms.

Recognized with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label, the Verrerie represents a rare and living tradition. It also played a key role in establishing Biot as a center for glassmaking, inspiring generations of artisans who continue to work in the area.

👉 Local Tip: Arrive early in the day when the workshop is quieter so you can clearly watch the glassblowers at work, then explore the smaller artisan shops in Biot village for more unique pieces.
