Rocher des Doms is the best viewpoint in Avignon, offering sweeping views over the Rhône River, the Pont Saint-Bénézet, and the surrounding landscape. Perched just above the Palais des Papes, this elevated park provides a welcome escape from the busy streets below.
The short but slightly steep climb leads to a peaceful green space with shaded paths, fountains, lawns, and small ponds with ducks. Once at the top, you’ll find several viewpoints where you can look out across the river towards Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and the wider Provence countryside.
Despite its central location, the park has a relaxed atmosphere, making it ideal for a break during a day of sightseeing. There’s also a small café if you want to sit down and enjoy the view a bit longer.
It’s one of the few places in Avignon where you can both take in the city from above and slow down at the same time.
👉 Local Tip: Bring something to eat and have a picnic here instead of sitting in a crowded square. It’s quieter, cooler, and the views are much better.
