If you want one of the widest views over the French Riviera without a long hike, this is the spot. It’s one of those places where the scale of the coastline really makes sense.

Fort du Mont Alban, built in the 16th century under the Duke of Savoy, once played a key defensive role between Nice and the surrounding territories. Today, while the fort itself is not always open inside, the exterior and surrounding area offer one of the most impressive panoramas in the region.

From here, you can see Nice, Villefranche-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cap d’Ail, and on clear days even as far as the Estérel massif or the Italian coast. The position between the former Château de Nice and the Citadel of Villefranche made it strategically essential, and that same location now delivers exceptional views.

The access is relatively easy, making it a great alternative to more crowded viewpoints around Nice.

👉 Local Tip: Come just before sunset for softer light over the bay. It’s much quieter than Castle Hill and gives you a wider, less obstructed view.
