Right in the heart of the village, this elegant fountain draws attention with its sculpted details and quiet presence. It reflects a time when water points were both practical and central to daily life.

The Fontaine des Quatre Saisons, located on Cours Gambetta in Cotignac (Var), dates back to the early 19th century and is listed as a Monument Historique. Originally from Aix-en-Provence, it was installed here in 1810 and became an essential part of the village’s development as it expanded beyond its original rock setting.

The fountain features an octagonal basin and a central column decorated with four sculpted faces, each representing a season: spring with flowers, summer with wheat, autumn with vines, and winter with a more austere expression. Above, a richly decorated urn completes the composition.

Beyond its artistic value, the fountain played a key role in supplying water and served as a natural gathering point. Today, it remains a charming landmark within Cotignac, surrounded by cafés and shaded terraces that bring the area to life.

👉 Local Tip: Visit in the morning when the light hits the stone façades along Cours Gambetta, then sit nearby for a coffee. It’s one of the best spots in Cotignac to watch village life unfold at a relaxed pace.
