Directions

Roquebrune-Cap-Martin offers one of the most striking contrasts on the Côte d’Azur, where a medieval hilltop village overlooks a coastline lined with grand Belle Époque villas. Above, you’ll find narrow streets, vaulted passageways, and a peaceful old village atmosphere. Below, the Cap-Martin peninsula reveals a more glamorous side of the Riviera.

At the top sits the Château de Roquebrune, believed to be one of the oldest feudal castles in France, dating back to the 10th century. Originally built to defend against invasions, it was later reshaped by the Grimaldi family and restored in the early 20th century. The views from here stretch across the coast toward Monaco.

At sea level, the coastal path leading to Monaco is one of the most scenic walks in the area, passing lush gardens, historic villas, and the famous path linked to Le Corbusier, who spent time here.

The area also holds layers of history, from prehistoric caves like the Grottes du Vallonet to the remarkable thousand-year-old olive tree, one of the oldest in the world.

👉 Local tip: Start in the old village, then drive or walk down to the coast and follow part of the coastal path toward Monaco. Experiencing both levels is what makes Roquebrune-Cap-Martin special.
