Step away from the polished image of Cannes, and you’ll find a completely different atmosphere just a few streets uphill. Narrow lanes, quiet corners, and the scent of food drifting from small restaurants replace the crowds of the Croisette.

Le Suquet, the old town of Cannes, sits on a hill overlooking the Vieux Port and the bay. This is where the city began as a small fishing village, and you can still feel that history in its winding cobbled streets, pastel houses, and shaded stairways. Walking up from Rue Meynadier and Marché Forville, the climb gradually reveals a more authentic side of Cannes.

At the top, the Église Notre-Dame-d’Espérance and the remains of the medieval castle host the Musée des Explorations du Monde, while the square around La Castre offers one of the best panoramic views over Cannes. From here, you can see the port, the Croisette, and the Lérins Islands in one sweep.

Le Suquet is also one of the best areas in Cannes for restaurants, small shops, and evening atmosphere, especially along Rue Saint-Antoine, where locals and visitors gather for dinner.

👉 Local Tip: Go early in the morning or just before sunset to avoid crowds, and take one of the smaller side streets instead of the main climb. You’ll find quieter viewpoints and a much more authentic feel than along the busiest paths.
