Traverse des Lices, better known as Place des Lices, is one of the most atmospheric squares in Saint-Tropez. Shaded by tall plane trees and lined with cafés and restaurants, it remains a favourite meeting place for locals.

The square gained artistic fame when painter Charles Camoin captured it in his well-known painting Saint-Tropez, la place des Lices et le Café des Arts in 1925. Even today, much of the relaxed village atmosphere he depicted still survives.

During the day, café terraces fill with visitors enjoying coffee or rosé while watching the rhythm of the town. Locals often gather under the trees to play pétanque (boules), a classic Provençal pastime that has been part of daily life here for generations.

The square also hosts the Saint-Tropez market, which takes place several times a week and fills the area with stalls selling local produce, flowers, antiques, and Provençal specialties.

With its mix of cafés, markets, and local life, Traverse des Lices remains one of the most authentic places to experience the spirit of Saint-Tropez.
