Rising just east of Aix-en-Provence, Mont Sainte-Victoire is one of the most recognizable landscapes in southern France. Stretching across the horizon with its pale limestone ridge, it has shaped both the scenery and the identity of the region.
The mountain is closely tied to Paul Cézanne, who painted it more than 60 times, capturing its shifting light and changing moods. Even today, the connection between art and landscape is impossible to miss.
For visitors, it’s both a visual landmark and an active destination. You can hike a range of trails, from easier routes at the base to more demanding climbs toward the summit, where wide views open over Provence, vineyards, and surrounding valleys.
On the northern side lies the Château de Vauvenargues, once owned by Picasso, adding another layer of artistic history to the area.
👉 Local Tip: Choose your route carefully. Some summit trails are steep and exposed, so if you want a rewarding but easier experience, stick to the lower panoramic paths.
