Hidden in the narrow streets of Vieux Nice, the Palais Lascaris is one of the most remarkable historic buildings in the city. Built in the 17th century for the aristocratic Lascaris family, this sumptuous Baroque palace reflects the wealth and prestige of Nice during the period when the region was still linked to Italy.

The palace is famous for its richly decorated interior. Visitors can admire grand salons filled with stucco decoration, frescoes, ornate staircases, and elaborate ceilings. One of the highlights is the magnificent trompe-l’œil ceiling, often attributed to the Italian artist Giovanni Battista Carlone, which creates the illusion of architectural depth and movement above the room.

Today the palace houses an exceptional museum of historic musical instruments, including rare violins, lutes, and other instruments from the 17th to 19th centuries. On the ground floor, a carefully reconstructed 18th-century pharmacy offers another glimpse into everyday life in historic Nice.

With its lavish decoration and fascinating collections, Palais Lascaris offers one of the best insights into aristocratic life in Baroque Nice.

👉 Local tip: Look up when climbing the grand staircase. Many visitors hurry through, but the painted ceilings and decorative stucco work here are some of the most impressive details in the palace.
