If you want an easy, social beach day in Marseille, this is where locals go when they’re not chasing hidden coves. It’s lively, accessible, and built for spending a full afternoon by the sea.

Plage Borély, part of the Prado beaches in Marseille’s 8th arrondissement, stretches for about 260 meters along a wide promenade popular with walkers and cyclists. The beach itself is a mix of sand and gravel, with shallow waters that make it suitable for families.

Everything here is designed for convenience. You’ll find lifeguards during the summer season, showers, toilets, lockers, playgrounds, volleyball courts, and plenty of nearby cafés, bars, and restaurants. The area around Escale Borély adds to the atmosphere, especially in the evening when people stay for drinks or dinner after the beach.

This is also one of the best spots in the city for combining activities. You can swim, rent a sunbed, cycle along the seafront, or walk into Parc Borély just behind the beach for a quieter break under the trees.

It’s not the wild side of Marseille’s coastline, but it’s one of the most practical and versatile places to enjoy the sea without planning too much.

👉 Local Tip: Come late afternoon instead of midday. Locals often arrive after 17:00 when the heat drops, the light softens, and the beach feels less crowded before transitioning into drinks or dinner nearby.
