Tables fill up quickly, glasses clink, and the atmosphere shifts as the day fades into evening. This is where Aix feels social, relaxed, and a little louder than its quieter streets.

Place des Cardeurs, in the historic center of Aix-en-Provence, is one of the city’s most popular squares for dining and evening drinks. Created in the 1960s on the site of a former medieval Jewish quarter, it is now surrounded by restored classical buildings that frame the square with warm tones and lively terraces.

At its center stands a fountain designed by local artist Jean Amado, adding a modern touch to a space that still feels deeply rooted in the city. The layout, colors, and constant activity give the square a subtle Italian feel, especially in the evening when restaurants and bars take over.

At the lower end, a smaller and quieter corner, Place des Fontêtes, offers a more intimate atmosphere if you want a break from the main crowd.

👉 Local Tip: Skip peak dinner hours if you want a table without waiting. Come slightly earlier for a drink, then stay as the square fills up. You’ll get the atmosphere without the stress of finding a seat.
