Apt is one of the main towns in the Luberon and the gateway to the Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon. Larger and more lived-in than nearby villages, it offers a mix of history, local food culture, and access to some of the region’s most striking landscapes.

The old town is built around shaded squares, fountains, and narrow streets, with the Cathédrale Sainte-Anne at its center. Inside, you’ll find religious relics, historic artwork, and a treasury linked to medieval pilgrimage traditions.

Apt is best known for its Saturday market, one of the most vibrant in Provence. You’ll find local specialties like candied fruits (a local specialty), truffles, lavender products, cheeses, and olive oil, along with street performances and a lively atmosphere.

The town also has a strong industrial history, explained in the Musée de l’Aventure Industrielle, where you can learn about ochre extraction, ceramics, and confectionery production that shaped the region.

Just outside Apt, you’ll find one of the most unique landscapes in Provence: the Colorado Provençal of Rustrel, with its striking ochre cliffs and walking trails. The surrounding area is also ideal for hiking, cycling, and even stargazing at Observatoire Sirene, known for its clear skies.

👉 Local Tip: Visit the Saturday market early, then drive 10 minutes to the Colorado Provençal. Most people do it the other way around and arrive when the light is already harsh and the site crowded.
