Colline du Château rises above the old town of Nice and offers some of the most spectacular views on the French Riviera. Although the medieval castle that once stood here was destroyed in 1706, the hill remains one of the most popular scenic spots in the city.

Today, the area is a large park and botanical garden with shaded paths, Mediterranean vegetation, and several viewpoints overlooking the Baie des Anges, the Port of Nice, and the red rooftops of the old town. The hill sits between the Promenade des Anglais and the Port Lympia, making it a perfect stop while exploring the historic centre.

At the summit, you’ll also find a waterfall, landscaped gardens, and historic ruins, all surrounded by panoramic terraces that provide excellent photo opportunities. Several walking paths and staircases lead up from the old town, while an elevator near the seafront offers an easier route to the top.

The combination of history, gardens, and sweeping Mediterranean views makes Castle Hill one of the most rewarding places to visit in Nice.

👉 Local tip: Walk up from Cours Saleya in the Old Town early in the morning. You’ll avoid the crowds, and the light over the Baie des Anges is at its most beautiful.
