The Musée Picasso in Antibes is one of the most important art museums on the French Riviera, located inside the historic Château Grimaldi overlooking the Mediterranean.

The building itself has a long history. Originally a bishop’s palace during the early Middle Ages, it later became the residence of the Grimaldi family of Monaco and eventually the seat of royal governors. Today, the castle houses a remarkable collection of modern art.

In 1946, Pablo Picasso used the château as his studio, inspired by the light and atmosphere of the Riviera. During his stay, he created numerous works and later donated many of them to the city. The museum now displays hundreds of pieces by Picasso, including paintings, drawings, prints, and more than 100 ceramic works.

The collection also includes works by major modern artists such as Joan Miró, Fernand Léger, Max Ernst, and Amedeo Modigliani, making it one of the most significant modern art collections on the Côte d’Azur.

Perched above the sea in the heart of the old town, the museum also offers beautiful views over the Mediterranean.

👉 Local tip: After visiting the museum, step outside onto the Ramparts terrace behind the château. The view of the coastline and the Alps beyond is one of the most beautiful panoramas in Antibes.
