Directions

The Gorges du Loup is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the Alpes-Maritimes, carved by the River Loup as it cuts deep through the rugged limestone hills between Grasse, Gourdon, and the Riviera coast.

This dramatic canyon is considered one of the most accessible gorges in the region, making it a popular destination for scenic drives, hiking, and photography. The river has carved a series of impressive features into the rock, including waterfalls, rapids, and deep potholes.

One of the best-known natural formations is the Saut du Loup (“Wolf’s Leap”), a large circular pothole carved into the stone by the swirling river. Further upstream, visitors can see several waterfalls including the Cascade des Demoiselles and the impressive Cascade de Courmes, which plunges about 40 metres into the gorge below.

The road through the canyon offers spectacular viewpoints. A popular route begins near Pré-du-Loup, climbs toward the hilltop village of Gourdon, and then continues deeper into the gorge where dramatic cliffs and lush vegetation line the river.

Beyond the canyon, the route continues toward Tourrettes-sur-Loup, a historic village known for its art workshops and panoramic views over the surrounding plateau.

👉 Local tip: Stop near the Saut du Loup viewpoint along the road between Pont-du-Loup and Gourdon. It’s one of the easiest places to admire the canyon without needing a long hike.
