Arles is one of the most fascinating cities in Provence, known for its remarkable Roman heritage, artistic history, and relaxed southern atmosphere. Once a major city of the Roman Empire, Arles still feels like a smaller version of Rome, with impressive monuments scattered across its historic center.

The most striking landmark is Les Arènes d’Arles, a well-preserved Roman amphitheatre where gladiators once fought. Nearby, you’ll find the Théâtre Antique, the Thermes de Constantin, and the underground Cryptoporticus, all within walking distance. Around Place de la République, the heart of the city, stand the Romanesque Église Saint-Trophime and the old town hall.

Beyond its monuments, Arles has a lived-in charm. The weekly market along Boulevard des Lices is one of the best in Provence, and the old town is compact enough to explore entirely on foot. The city also serves as a gateway to the Camargue, known for wild landscapes, flamingos, and white horses.
