On the edge of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, Château La Verrerie stands out as one of the area’s historic wine pioneers, with roots that go far deeper than most vineyards.
The site itself is remarkable. Archaeological remains show prehistoric rock-carved wine vats dating back over 4,000 years, making this one of the oldest known winemaking locations in the region. Before returning fully to viticulture, the estate also operated as a glassworks, which explains its name.
Today, the vineyard is run under organic farming practices, producing red, rosé, and white wines that reflect the character of the Rhône Valley side of the Luberon. The setting adds to the experience, with wide, open views across a rugged and less touristy part of Provence.
Visitors can choose between a simple tasting or a more complete experience, including guided tours from vineyard to cellar, often led by knowledgeable sommeliers. Olive oil tastings are also part of the offer.
👉 Local Tip: Go for the guided experience instead of just a tasting. The landscape and history make much more sense when someone walks you through it.
