Quai des États-Unis

Directions

This stretch of seafront feels calmer than the Promenade des Anglais, but just as scenic. With the sea on one side and the Old Town rising behind it, it’s one of the best places in Nice for an easy walk, open views, and a strong sense of place.

Quai des États-Unis runs from the foot of Castle Hill toward the port, between Vieux Nice and the Mediterranean. It continues the seafront route after the Promenade des Anglais and today includes a widened pedestrian area, a cycle path, and renovated public lighting, making it a comfortable space for walking, biking, and events. The name dates from 1917, when Nice renamed the former Quai du Midi to honor the United States entering the war alongside France and its allies.

The setting is what makes it memorable. You have the pebble beach and sea wall below, the pastel façades of Nice behind, and Castle Hill above. This section of the waterfront also hosts outdoor art and sits close to the Galerie des Ponchettes and the sea-facing cultural spaces nearby, so it works well as more than just a transit route.

It’s also a smart route choice. From here, you can move easily between Place Masséna, the Cours Saleya area, Rauba-Capeù, Castle Hill, and the port without dealing with the heavier flow of the main boulevard.

👉 Local Tip: Come early in the morning and walk east with the sea on your right. The light hits the façades beautifully, the Old Town is still quiet, and this is one of the nicest ways to reach Rauba-Capeù and the port.
