Sainte-Maxime is a lively seaside resort on the north shore of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, directly opposite the famous village of Saint-Tropez. Sheltered by surrounding hills, the town enjoys a mild climate and has become a popular destination for both year-round residents and summer visitors.

The town’s main attractions are its long sandy beaches, marina, and palm-lined promenade, which stretches along the waterfront with cafés, restaurants, and views across the gulf. Sainte-Maxime is also known for its water sports, nightlife, casino, and seasonal festivals, giving the resort a vibrant atmosphere during the summer months.

Historically, the area was protected by the monks of the Lérins Islands, who named the port after their patron saint and built the defensive Tour Carrée des Dames. Today, this tower houses the Musée des Traditions Locales, which presents the history and traditions of the region.

Nearby stands the Church of Sainte-Maxime, where visitors can see a striking 17th-century green marble altar that originally came from the Carthusian monastery of La Verne in the Massif des Maures.
