Jardin d'été

Directions

When the heat builds up in Arles, this is where locals go to slow down. Shade, benches, and a quieter rhythm just steps away from the busiest streets.

The Jardin d’Été, located in the center of Arles near the Théâtre Antique and Boulevard des Lices, is one of the city’s main green spaces. Created in the 19th century to enhance the surroundings of the Roman ruins, it still reflects that purpose today, blending history with a relaxed park atmosphere.

The garden stretches across more than 10,000 m², with shaded paths, fountains, and a mix of Mediterranean and exotic plants. Sculptures and decorative elements add character, while the proximity to the ancient theatre gives the space a strong historical backdrop.

It’s a place that works for everyone. Locals come here to rest, families use the playground area, and visitors often stop by between sightseeing spots to escape the sun for a while. The benches scattered throughout make it easy to pause without planning anything.

👉 Local Tip: Enter from the side closest to the Théâtre Antique and walk toward the deeper sections of the park. Most people stay near the edges, but the inner paths are quieter and much more pleasant on hot days.
