On Réunion’s east coast, just inland from Sainte-Benoît, the Rivière des Roches is a calm, green corridor where families come to cool off and unwind. The river winds through old lava flows, creating natural pools and shaded spots ideal for an easy dip or riverside picnic. Unlike the more rugged rivers of the island’s interior, here the flow is usually manageable and access is easy.

The site has long been a local favorite, and it’s especially active on weekends when locals set up grills along the banks. There’s no official infrastructure, but the area is easy to reach by car, and several parts are accessible without much effort. Just be careful when the water level is high: flash floods can still happen, especially after heavy rain upstream.

👉 Go early on weekdays if you want peace and clean water. Weekends can get crowded, and the basins get cloudy fast.
