This is one of the most iconic villages in Provence, known for its dramatic setting between towering cliffs at the entrance of the Verdon Gorge. With stone houses, flowing streams, and narrow streets, it’s a place that immediately stands out.

Moustiers-Sainte-Marie is built along a ravine, with small bridges connecting different parts of the village and water running through its center. High above, the chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir sits against the cliff, reached by a steep path that rewards you with wide views over the surrounding landscape and the edge of the Verdon canyon.

The village is also famous for its faïence pottery, a tradition dating back to the 17th century. You can visit the Musée de la Faïence or explore workshops where artisans still produce ceramics using traditional methods.

One of the most unusual features is the golden star suspended between the cliffs, hanging from a long chain above the village, surrounded by legend and history.

👉 Local Tip: Arrive early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The village gets crowded in summer, but outside peak hours, you can enjoy the streets and viewpoints with far fewer people. If you’re climbing to the chapel, bring water and take your time. The path is steep but worth it.
