Directions

Just beyond the dramatic cliffs of the Verdon Gorge, this wide, calm lake offers a completely different atmosphere, open, bright, and made for relaxing by the water.

Formed by a hydroelectric dam, the Lac de Sainte-Croix stretches out in striking shades of turquoise, with shallow edges perfect for swimming and easy access points around the shore.

It’s one of the best places in Provence for water-based activities, including kayaking, pedal boats, windsurfing, and sailing. You can also paddle directly into the entrance of the gorge for a unique perspective from the water.

The surrounding villages, including Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon, Bauduen, and Les Salles-sur-Verdon, provide access points, beaches, and rental facilities.

After the intensity of the canyon, this is where most visitors slow down and enjoy the landscape at a gentler pace.

👉 Local Tip: Go early in the morning or late in the day. Midday crowds can get heavy, especially in summer, and parking fills up fast.
