The Palamidi Fortress is one of the most iconic landmarks in Nafplio, towering 216 meters above the town and offering some of the best panoramic views of the Argolic Gulf. Built by the Venetians in the early 18th century, this massive complex consists of eight bastions, interconnected by walls and passages, creating a unique maze-like experience for visitors.

Adventurous travelers can tackle the 999 steps leading up from Nafplio’s Old Town, a challenging but rewarding climb that reveals breathtaking views at every turn. For a more relaxed visit, you can drive directly to the fortress entrance, making it accessible for all fitness levels. Once inside, explore the well-preserved bastions, the chapel of St. Andrew, and the various lookout points perfect for photography.

👉 Go in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and tour groups.
