A curved bay, calm water, and space to actually breathe. This is one of the easiest places on the Riviera to enjoy the sea without overthinking it.

Plage des Marinières, in Villefranche-sur-Mer, is the main beach of the bay, often considered one of the most beautiful natural harbors in the region. It stretches along the waterfront near the old port and is one of the few fully public beaches on this part of the Côte d’Azur.

The beach is made of fine pebbles that feel almost like sand near the water, and the seabed slopes gently, making it a good option for families and less confident swimmers. In summer, lifeguards are present, and facilities such as showers, toilets, snack kiosks, and nearby restaurants make it easy to spend several hours here.

Because of its location and accessibility, it can get busy during peak season. However, walking a bit further away from the port usually rewards you with more space and a quieter atmosphere.

The setting is what makes it stand out. Surrounded by hills, colorful buildings, and anchored boats, the bay creates a natural enclosure that keeps the water calm and visually striking throughout the day.

👉 Local Tip: Walk toward the far end of the beach (away from the port). It’s usually less crowded and better for a relaxed swim.
