Port-Cros is the smallest and most mountainous island of the Îles d’Hyères, and one of the most pristine natural landscapes on the French Mediterranean coast. The island is protected as part of the Port-Cros National Park, preserving its forests, cliffs, and marine ecosystems.

Unlike the sandy expanses of Porquerolles, Port-Cros is covered with dense pine and oak forests, rising into rugged hills above the sea. A network of walking trails crosses the island, leading hikers to clifftop viewpoints, quiet coves, and dramatic coastal scenery.

One of the best experiences on the island is walking the coastal path, which circles Port-Cros through forests and rocky headlands. The full route takes around five hours, offering constant views over the Mediterranean.

For swimming and relaxing, La Palud beach is the island’s most popular spot. Its clear water is part of a protected marine environment and is also known for an underwater snorkeling trail where visitors can observe Mediterranean marine life.

With its protected landscapes and absence of cars, Port-Cros offers one of the wildest and most untouched island experiences in southern France.

👉 Local tip: Bring good walking shoes and water. Many of Port-Cros’ best viewpoints and coves are reached only by hiking trails through the forest.
