This is where you understand why Grasse became the perfume capital of the world. Not through marketing or luxury branding, but through centuries of craft, experimentation, and raw materials.

The Musée International de la Parfumerie (MIP), located in the historic center of Grasse (Alpes-Maritimes), is the only museum in the world entirely dedicated to the history and culture of perfume. Spread across multiple historic buildings, it explores everything from ancient uses of scent to modern perfume creation, including raw ingredients, techniques, industry evolution, and design.

Inside, you’ll move through different periods, discovering objects from all over the world: perfume bottles, machinery, textiles, and artworks. Some sections are interactive, allowing you to engage your sense of smell, which makes the visit more immersive than a typical museum.

The experience doesn’t stop in the city. The Jardins du MIP, located in nearby Mouans-Sartoux, showcase hundreds of aromatic plants used in perfumery, including jasmine, rose, and tuberose. It’s a more relaxed, outdoor complement to the museum.

👉 Local Tip: Skip the private “perfume museums” in Grasse that end in aggressive product sales. This is the only true museum that focuses on history and craftsmanship rather than pushing you to buy.
