Oshino Hakkai is a charming little village tucked away in the foothills of Mount Fuji, famous for its crystal-clear ponds that sparkle with Fuji as the backdrop. The eight springs here are fed by melted snow from the mountain, giving the whole place an almost magical, tranquil vibe. Each pond has its own character, framed by lush greenery and thatched-roof houses that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. It’s the kind of spot where you can slow down, wander the pathways, and soak up the peaceful scenery—oh, and of course, grab those Instagram-worthy shots while you’re at it.
Getting to Oshino Hakkai is pretty straightforward and makes for a great day trip. From Tokyo, most people take a train to Fuji-Q Highland or Fujisan Station, then hop on a local bus that drops you right near the village in about 15–20 minutes. If you prefer flexibility, renting a car is even better, you’ll get to cruise through the scenic Fuji Five Lakes area at your own pace and easily stop at other viewpoints along the way. Either way, the journey itself is part of the charm, with Mount Fuji often peeking through the clouds as you make your way there.
