Katsuoji Temple – The Temple of Victory Hidden in the Hills
Tucked away in the lush mountains north of Osaka, Katsuoji Temple is a peaceful Buddhist temple known as the “Temple of Victory.” Surrounded by vibrant maple trees, it’s especially stunning in autumn when the entire valley glows red and gold. The temple is famous for its collection of Daruma dolls, symbolizing perseverance and success, which visitors dedicate after achieving their goals. Located about 4 km from Minoh Falls, Katsuoji can be reached by a scenic 45-minute to 1-hour walk through forested trails, or a quick taxi ride for those short on time. Many visitors combine both spots for a relaxing half-day escape from Osaka, allowing around 2.5 hours to explore the temple grounds, stroll the gardens, and soak in the tranquil mountain atmosphere before heading to the waterfall.
