Welcome to what we affectionately call 'Hell Valley,' the dramatic heart of Noboribetsu's hot springs. Jigokudani (Hell Valley) is the dramatic hot spring park that Noboribetsu is famous for, and it’s completely free to visit.

This steaming volcanic valley is criss-crossed with easy walking paths that wind past bubbling sulphur pools, vents blasting out steam, and otherworldly yellow rock formations that genuinely look like another planet.

The park is open year-round, all day, and is especially atmospheric in winter when snow contrasts against the rising steam.

Just beyond the main valley, short trails lead to spots like Oyunuma Pond and the natural Oyunuma Footbath, where you can soak your feet for free. It’s an easy, must-see stop that gives you the full hot-spring experience without ever stepping into a bath.
