Nagamachi is where Kanazawa’s samurai history really comes to life. The narrow lanes, earthen walls, and old residences make it super easy to picture what life must have looked like here centuries ago.

Make sure you stop by the Nomura Samurai Family Residence, it’s the only samurai home you can actually step inside, and wandering through the rooms feels a bit like sneaking a peek into someone’s life from the Edo period. The armor and family treasures are cool, but the real showstopper is the garden, it’s small, peaceful, and honestly one of the prettiest I’ve seen in Japan.

The rest of the neighborhood has plenty of little surprises too. Some of the old houses have been turned into craft shops and museums, so you can browse, shop, and learn as you go. It’s the kind of place where you slow down, wander aimlessly, and just let the atmosphere sink in.
