Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama is one of Kyoto’s most fun little adventures — part hike, part wildlife encounter, and totally worth it for the views. Tucked just across the river from the famous Togetsukyo Bridge, the walk up takes around 20–30 minutes, winding through a peaceful forest before opening up to a hilltop packed with over 120 playful Japanese macaques. Entry costs about ¥550 for adults and ¥250 for kids, and once you reach the top, you can even feed the monkeys (from a safe indoor area!) while soaking up one of the best panoramic views of Kyoto. Wear comfy shoes — it’s a bit steep in parts — and bring water, especially in warmer months. Go early if you can; it’s cooler, quieter, and the monkeys are extra lively in the morning.
