Sensoji Temple is one of the most iconic temples in Japan and an absolute must-visit in Tokyo. Located in the historic Asakusa district, it’s the city’s oldest temple, dating back to the 7th century. As you walk through the famous Kaminarimon Gate and along Nakamise Street, you’ll find rows of traditional shops selling snacks, souvenirs, and crafts before reaching the main temple hall.

One of the most fun traditions at Sensoji is trying omikuji, a paper fortune you can draw for just 100 yen. Shake the metal box, pull out your stick, and see what fate has in store—good or bad! If you get a less-than-lucky fortune, you can tie it up at the temple to leave the bad luck behind.

Insider tip: Visit in the morning when the temple is peaceful and far less crowded. You’ll have a better chance to soak up the atmosphere and snap photos without the daytime rush.
