If you’re looking for a quieter alternative to the ever-crowded Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Adashino Nenbutsu-ji Temple is a hidden gem you’ll love. Tucked away in the northern part of Arashiyama, this peaceful temple is home to a small but beautiful bamboo grove where you can stroll in near silence — no crowds, just the rustling of leaves and the sound of the wind. The temple grounds themselves are hauntingly beautiful, with thousands of stone statues honoring those who passed without family, giving the place a serene and reflective atmosphere. Entry costs ¥500 for adults (¥400 for students, free for children), and it’s open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. To get there, take a scenic 20–30 minute walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station or hop on a Kyoto city bus toward Kiyotaki and get off at Toriimoto stop, just a short stroll from the temple.
