Kayabuki no Sato, located in Miyama, north of Kyoto, is a charming thatched-roof village that feels like stepping back in time to rural Japan of centuries past. Surrounded by forested mountains and rice fields, this peaceful hamlet is famous for its traditional “kayabuki” farmhouses, with steep, straw-thatched roofs designed to withstand heavy snow. Many of the homes are still lived in today, giving the village an authentic, lived-in feel rather than a museum vibe.

You can reach Kayabuki no Sato on a day tour which also visits Amanohashidate & Ine Funaya
