Arashiyama’s crown jewel and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s one of Kyoto’s most important Zen temples, famous for its stunning landscape garden that’s remained unchanged since the 14th century, designed to perfectly frame the Arashiyama mountains in the background. The temple grounds are calm and expansive, with walking paths that lead straight to the famous bamboo grove. Entry costs ¥500 for the garden or ¥800 for both the garden and temple buildings, and it’s open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
