The Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park in Nagano is a world-famous spot where you can watch wild Japanese macaques relaxing in natural hot springs, surrounded by snowy landscapes in winter and lush greenery in summer. Located in the Jigokudani Valley, the park is about a 10 minute walk from the Kanbayashi Onsen bus stop, and a further 20 minutes walk within the park. with paths that wind through forested scenery — a highlight in itself.

To get there, most visitors take the train to Nagano Station (from Tokyo, around 1.5–2 hours by shinkansen), then a local train or bus to Yudanaka Station, followed by a short bus ride to Kanbayashi Onsen.

You can also take the stress out and book this spot as a day tour from Tokyo - Book Here

Entrance to the park costs around ¥800 for adults and ¥400 for children (prices can vary slightly), and the walking trail is generally flat but can be snowy and icy in winter, so sturdy footwear is recommended. The combination of a peaceful walk and the chance to see the famous snow monkeys in their natural habitat makes it an unforgettable day trip.

BEST time to visit is in Winter, when the monkeys are actively bathing.
