Tromsø in summer can swing from warm sun to arctic chill in a single day — pack like you’re going hiking and going to brunch, all in one.
Season: June to August
Temp Range: 8–20°C
What to Expect: Long daylight hours, midnight sun, occasional rain, cool breezes even on sunny days, and endless photo ops.
Light waterproof & windproof jacket: Sudden rain is common—even in sunshine. Gore-Tex is ideal.
Warm fleece or puffy jacket for layering: For mornings, evenings, and boat trips—it gets cold fast.
Quick-dry T-shirts / breathable base layers (You’ll sweat on hikes, even in cool temps.)
Hiking pants / Quick-dry leggings (avoid jeans — they stay wet and get cold. You’ll thank us later).
Comfortable walking shoes: Hiking shoes / trail runner shoes (Many paths are rocky and slippery. Go waterproof).
Swimsuit: Perfect for Arctic dips or sauna spots.
Sunglasses & SPF 50 sunscreen (the sun is surprisingly strong & sunlight reflects intensely off water and snowfields.)
Light gloves & hat: You’ll need them for windy viewpoints or boat trips.
Small daypack / small backpack: Bring snacks, layers, and water on hikes.
Reusable water bottle
Sleep mask: Midnight sun = hard to fall asleep without blackout.
Campers & Hikers: Insect repellent, water filter, ultralight gear
Photographers: Lens cloth, extra memory card, tripod, spare batteries (they die fast in cold air)
Swimmers: Microfibre towel, neoprene shoes for rocky shores
Families: Kids’ layers, collapsible stroller, sunhats
