While we didn’t go inside, we loved taking a few snapshots of the outside with the surrounding city views. Often overshadowed by the Arctic Cathedral, Tromsø Domkirke still stands as a quiet and elegant symbol of the city. Located on Storgata in the heart of Tromsø, it’s one of the northernmost Protestant cathedrals in the world and among the few remaining wooden cathedrals in Norway.
Built in 1861, the cathedral features Neo-Gothic architecture, warm ochre tones, and a peaceful atmosphere, making it worth a stop—even if only for exterior photos during your stroll through town.
💡 Tip: Visit in the late afternoon, when the low Arctic light illuminates the façade, or capture the cathedral with the mountains in the background for a classic Tromsø contrast of city and nature.
📸 Bonus: The surroundings are especially picturesque in winter, with soft snow and nearby holiday lights creating a postcard-perfect scene.
🧭 Nearby: Steps from Tøllefsenhjørnet Café and close to the library and Polar Museum—easy to include in any downtown walking tour.
