Þórsmörk is a stunning valley in southern Iceland, nestled between the glaciers Mýrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull, known for its dramatic mix of glacial rivers, jagged mountains, volcanic formations, and lush birch forests. Its name means “Thor’s Forest”, reflecting the wild and rugged beauty of the area. The valley is a paradise for hikers, offering everything from the challenging Fimmvörðuháls Trail, which connects Skógar to Þórsmörk and passes two volcanoes, to shorter day hikes within the valley itself.

Access requires a 4WD vehicle even in summer due to rough roads and glacial river crossings, although shuttle buses operate in the summer for those without off-road vehicles.

Þórsmörk is also popular for camping, with sites like Langidalur and Básar, providing a remote wilderness experience. Visitors are rewarded with incredible scenery, including moss-covered lava fields, cascading rivers, and sweeping views of surrounding peaks, making it one of Iceland’s most magical and adventurous destinations.
