Overview
Tommy and Saundra O'Sullivan opened O'Sullivan's Courthouse Pub in 2011, and it has since gained a reputation for world-class traditional Irish music. In 2015, National Geographic cited it as the go-to pub for traditional Irish music on Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.
The pub occupies a historic former courthouse on The Mall, and the old building's acoustics make it an especially good venue for live music. Prior to opening the pub, Tommy was a full-time touring musician - a member of the group Sliabh Notes and a longtime collaborator with legendary Irish piper Paddy Keenan, with whom he recorded a duet album.
What You'll See
You won't find televisions, jukeboxes, or pool tables here - just a warm fire, a pot of coffee brewing, the finest pint of your choosing, good conversation, and great music.
Accordions, harp, fiddles, and guitars fill the space every night with traditional Irish songs, drawing a mix of locals and visitors. Tommy performs regularly alongside a rotating cast of musicians, all of whom are described on the pub's own website as among the best and most respected traditional players in Ireland.
The pub stocks one of the best selections of craft beers on tap in Dingle, alongside the expected stout.
Visitor Essentials
The pub is open Monday to Sunday from 6pm until close. Music runs seven nights a week, starting at around 9pm. The pub does not serve food, so eating beforehand is strongly recommended.
There is no cover charge or admission fee - the pub relies on drink and merchandise purchases to support live music, so buying a round is how you keep the tradition going.
Tips
Come early to grab a drink and a seat - the pub fills quickly once word gets out that the music is good, and standing room becomes the norm as the night progresses.
The pub is a short walk from most accommodation in Dingle town, including Greenmount House on the hill above. Dick Mack's and An Droichead Beag are two other strong options nearby for traditional music, making it easy to explore a few pubs on the same evening if the mood takes you.
